Pillows & Quilts: The Key To A Healthy Night's Sleep

Pillows & Quilts: The Key To A Healthy Night's Sleep

Another question often asked by our customers is how often pillows and quilts should be laundered or replaced. This question can be answered quite simply and by sticking to this rule you will continue sleeping peacefully knowing that you are surrounded by healthy, sanitized, low allergy bedding.

Call these recommendations or rules. You can please yourself on that. I like to use the word rule because I feel that there is a punishment if I break the rule!  Break the rule of not laundering or exchanging old for new bedding and you will have to sleep in an unhealthy environment. Now that's what I call a harsh penalty!

It is recommended to wash all bedding at least once per year.  I like to aim for sometime in the first 3 months of the year. Why? Because it is lovely and hot during this time, which means if you are lucky enough to be able to line dry your bedding, there will be plenty of sunlight and lots of heat to get the job done well. This is also a quiet time of the year for me and a good time to get a few jobs done. Maybe you experience this at a different time of year.

How often should you launder your pillows?

When it comes to pillows, it is recommended to launder them every 3 to 6 months. Pillows can accumulate sweat, dead skin cells, and dust mites over time, which can lead to allergies and respiratory issues. The skin cells and dust mites also contribute to the degradation of the pillow both the outer shell and inner filling. Washing your pillows regularly will help maintain their cleanliness and extend their lifespan keeping the lovely new feeling longer.

What about quilts?

Quilts should be laundered every 6 months to a year, depending on usage. Just like pillows, quilts can harbor allergens and dust mites, which can affect your sleep quality and overall health. By washing your quilts regularly, you can ensure a clean and hygienic sleeping environment.

When should you replace your pillows and quilts?

Believe it or not, pillows should be replaced every 2-3 years. Yes, that's correct! Even though pillows may not show visible signs of wear and tear, they can accumulate dust mites, dead skin cells, and other allergens over time.  environment.Quilts, on the other hand, should be replaced every 3 to 5 years, as they can become less effective in providing warmth and comfort.

By replacing your pillows and quilts regularly, you can ensure a clean and hygienic sleep

Additional tips for maintaining your bedding

In addition to regular laundering and replacement, here are a few more tips to keep your bedding in top condition:

  • Use pillow protectors and quilt covers to prevent stains and dirt buildup.
  • Rotate your pillows regularly to distribute the wear and tear evenly.
  • Avoid eating or drinking in bed to minimize spills and stains.
  • Follow the care instructions provided by the manufacturer for washing and drying your bedding.

By following these rules for looking after your bedding, you can ensure a clean, comfortable, and healthy sleep environment. Remember, a good night's sleep starts with clean and well-maintained bedding.
